Eddy Hilberts

Eddy Hilberts (born October 23, 1948 in Groningen) is a Dutch music producer, songwriter and singer. He played in various bands and released several singles solo. However, he achieved his greatest successes as a music producer, especially for Pussycat. He also regularly writes music for various artists. Today he has a music studio in Germany.

Hilberts was still a child when he founded the duo The Meteors with his brother Bert in 1959. They performed regularly and won several talent shows. Since 1961 they played in The Flying Arrows for several years. After winning a talent show, he was allowed to record the single You at Bovema in 1966. John Möring, Klaas Leyen and Wim Jongbloed recorded it – a trio that was later involved in the success of The Cats. However, success did not materialize for him. He then sang for The Crew and White Sun, studied electronics and after his military service went to work for Bovema.

After successful recordings of Nursery rhymes by Jaap Dekker, he became a permanent employee at Bovema. In the meantime, he developed from recording engineer to producer and worked on records by well-known Dutch and foreign artists.

The artist’s life continued to attract him. In 1972 he sang in the background of the hit Eviva España by Imca Marina and was the organist on the album Maarten and the white horse by Elly and Rikkert. Two singles in 1973 and 1974 again failed to bring him success.

In 1975 he managed the band Sweet Reaction and it was on his initiative that the band changed its name to Pussycat. He produced the band’s first four LPs, all of which were internationally popular. He was also the producer behind their world hits Mississippi (1975), Georgie (1976), Smile (1976) and My broken souvenirs (1977).     Mississippi became number 1 in fourteen countries, including the first from Dutch soil in the United Kingdom.

In 1980 he had a small success with a single in Germany. With a contact he made there, he went to Pamplona to shoot his music video. After this he also made video clips for Vanessa, Mai Tai, Anita Meyer and the British Mark Foggo. For the Belgian Stella he produced the song Si tu aimes ma musique, which took fourth place during the Eurovision Song Contest of 1982. Around 1984 he was part of Kadanz for a short time.

He made a leader tune for KRO radio in 1983. With this space song Sensus he reached number 21 in Germany the following year.[2][9] He wrote his first arrangements during his studies and continued to write songs over the years. They were recorded by, for example, Pussycat, The Blue Diamonds, Martin Brozius, Spryng and Maribelle, Mieke Telkamp and Maria Verano. He has been an independent producer since 1987 and in 1991 he founded his music studio Bandstand.

He currently works and lives in Germany. In his studio he mainly produces schlager music. He also plays country music in the band Southbound and performs as Eddy Holland, with his debut album These are my songs for you in 2007.
