It’s the same old song is a song from 1965 written by Holland-Dozier-Holland. It was made a hit by the Four Tops, for whom it was written.
Later covers followed, for example by KC and The Sunshine Band, The Motions, the Weathermen (alias of Jonathan King), Third World and Michael Rodgers, who also had a hit with it. Other covers of The Supremes (with another instrumental basic tape by The Funk Brothers), Rod Stewart, Boyz II Men, Martha Reeves and Bobby Vee were released. The song is also part of the soundtrack of the 1983 feature film The Big Chill, performed by the studio group TMC Movie Tunez. Two Dutch groups had a hit with It’s the same old song, The Motions in 1966 and Pussycat in 1978.
The South Limburg band Pussycat released the song as a single in February 1978. In that year it appeared on a single as Same old song and on the LP Wet day in September as It’s the same old song. This is the first single from Pussycat of which the A-side was not written by Werner Theunissen. On the B-side of the single, a song by Theunissen appeared, namely Stupid cupid.
The video clip of the record was filmed in March 1978 by the TROS for a TV special during a live performance in discotheque La Diligence in Heerlen.
