“Let freedom range” is a song by Pussycat. It appeared in 1979 on a single and their album Simply to be with you. This song was written by Werner Theunissen. On the B-side is the song Don’t love him that was written by Eddy Hilberts who was also the producer. In both cases, the arrangement came from Gerard Stellaard.
The song is a tribute to Martin Luther King (1929-1968), as is also justified on the single and album cover. The song is about freedom and the equality of races. The lyrics contain several lines that seem to be directly inspired by King’s speeches, such as we’ll have a dream sometime (I have a dream, 1963) and Let freedom range over the mountains (I’ve been to the mountaintop, 1968).
The single was in Veronica’s Tipparade for six weeks, with tip 5 as the highest listing, but did not reach the Dutch Top 40. However, the National Hitparade did end up in the Belgian charts for a week.
