TONI WILLÉ
‘’PRIVILEGE’’
Is the first solo album by Toni Willé
The singer of the successful formation Pussycat.
It took a long time for Toni to take this step and after extremely careful preparation, she finally decided to implement this plan.
For many it was certain that Toni has a beautiful and especially by Dutch standards an exceptional voice with a timbre and strength with which no singer in our low countries can come.
For Toni herself, it has long been established that she wanted to exhibit something different with a solo album than what she did with Pussycat.
‘’PRIVILEGE’’ has therefore become an lp that not only stands out from Pussycat’s repertoire, but also an album that can rightly be called different from the average Dutch Production.
Chosen is a German rhythm section, consisting of Curt Cress on drums and Dieter Petereit on bass (both Spliff and passport) together with Ton Scherpenzeel on keys, They have the idea of a natural and spontaneous musical Basis in every way .
After this recording, a number of musicians have been called in who, directed by the Producers Duo, have supplemented Toni’s voice very well and have given the elpee a colour that is unprecedented by Dutch standards.
Important to mention in these are for example Kees ten Dam (sax solos), Eddie Conard (Percussion), Joe Elliott the singer of Def Leppard, takes care of the beautiful harmony vocals on ‘’Every Beat Of My Heart’’.
This whole approach, based on a repertoire choice that largely comes from Toni herself and therefore fits in very well with her atmosphere, obviously fit perfectly into the concept, built around Toni’s special voice.
It is striking that this selection of songs is exclusively by foreign composers.
For example, three compositions have been chosen by, the undervalued artist as a performance, Tom Snow, a beautiful ballad by Chris Rea, the unknown Italian composers M. and G. Capuano, but also a song by Holland/Dozier /Holland and (The song that is topical again) ‘’I’m Sorry’’ by Brenda Lee.
A clear concept performed by a special selection of musicians with the strikingly bold productional approach of Leenders in collaboration with Souer and of course inspired by and supplemented with the voice of Toni Willé have made ‘’PRIVILEGE’’ a surprising album that is worth listening to in many ways.
