” Smile ” is a song by Pussycat, released in 1976. It was released as the band’s third single and on the LP Souvenirs (1977). The song was written by Werner Theunissen. On the B-side of the single is the song What did they do to the people. The single reached number 2 in the Netherlands and Belgium and was also a hit in the German-speaking and several English-speaking countries. In addition, there was a German-language version of Pussycat, Ein altes Lied, which also entered the charts in Germany.
The singer sings that she has known times when she could not sleep or cry. Everything she did went wrong until she met her love.
The song was covered several times, including by Nils Tibor (1977), Jean-Claude Borelly (1977) and an instrumental big band version by Roberto Delgado (1977).
Pussycat also released a German version of Smile in 1976 with the title Ein altes Lied. On the B-side of the single is Pasadena, which is also a German version. The single also entered the German charts but did not reach as high as the English version.
